Another Oldie - but still one of MY favorites -

Magic Woodland --- Early Work

Magic Woodland is an earlier work --- when i first started with encaustic I was excited (and still am) about the idea of painting on substrates which didn't need to be framed --- and I could go really freeform! I painted on acidfree, sealed 1/2 foamboard, since I could never achive a perfect (factory) cut - I just went all out using a box cutter - My theory was: destroy and create! I chisled the edges, plastered and sealed them - the edges started to look like genuine plasterboard - I did a show to introduce my new style of painting and a guy came by and said: "hey cool you are painting on sheet rock ---- " But the best thing yet was and is - that the paintings are all very light weight! - Anyway a friend told me to go and approach a certain gallery --- Gallery paintings have to be square or rectangle ---- I got the message...... I still like this idea - but in the meantime I started to paint on canvas and artists artboard and my favorite thin gessoed plywood! -

Artist, Cancer Surviver, Oma!

well - it's going to be a busy week till Thanksgiving! - So I am preparing myself for a little time out for myself -
Went to a lecture at OSU last night - Dr Brian Drucker, a prominent Oncologist, Cancer Researcher and Drug Developer gave a lecture on "The End of Cancer is in Reach!" - Good News -
Gleevec is the new tumor targeting drug that has proven well for 10 different cancers - ofcourse I had a question : "will it work on pancreatic cancer?" --  "No, unfortunately not on that one!" - I had to let him and the audience know that standing here I pride myself to be a 7 year  post pancreatic cancer surviver!!! Wow - I got a lot of applause and a standing ovation! --- It felt great!!! A real perk for my immunesystem - I thought to myself --- on to another 7 years - and then, let me think - I really will be an old Oma --- I am an artist, I am a cancer surviver and I am an Oma (Grandma in German) - and let me tell you , being an Oma is the best! ---

 

 

 

 

Studio is closed -

I volunteered  hosting Thanksgiving

 for 20 dear out of towners

 so it will be wall to wall

mattresses in the studio!.................
